Not long ago we introduced you to Squash Royalty Maria Toorpakai, a highly skilled professional squash player whose road to triumph was marred with uncertainty and adversity.
Maria disguised herself as a boy, received threats from the Taliban, and fled to Canada all to pursue the sport she loved. Her incredible journey is detailed in her book, A Different Kind of Daughter.
On Monday June 27th, a small group of 60 privileged guests and fans alike gathered at Stratus Restaurant, where they were treated to an intimate and deeply personal evening with Maria. She recounted excerpts from her book and shared many though-provoking anecdotes during a very frank and authentic Q&A period. All in attendance were left mesmerized by Maria’s confidence and candor.
Although autographed copies of her book flew off the shelves that evening, they are available for purchase online.
Maria is an active member at the Toronto Athletic Club. You can see her training regularly with Former World #1, Canadian Squash Professional Jonathan Power.
