Cambridge Group Fitness Challenge: Get Involved
You’ve probably seen the creatives already on the digital screens at the Club, but this November, we’re bringing back the Cambridge Group Fitness Challenge – an event that we last held in 2017. This incredible fitness challenge pits teams of trainers from all three of our Clubs and Members against each other, all while raising money for phenomenal charities that support youth in the GTA.
This year, we’re looking for you to get involved! But what can you do?
What is the Cambridge Group Fitness Challenge?
As we mentioned, the Cambridge Group Fitness Challenge is a fitness challenge that brings our trainers and Members together to compete to determine who the fittest team is. Oh, and we’re raising funds for a number of wonderful charities, while we do it. This year’s event will include:
- STAGES Bike Relay, featuring teams of 4 or 5
- Agility Relay
- Hex Bar Deadlifts
- Sled Pushes
- Rowing Relay
The Challenge will be held at the Adelaide Club, with participants getting to enjoy refreshments afterwards in the HUB.

COCKTAIL SOCIAL: 4:30 – 6:00pm

How can you get involved?
There are a couple of ways you can get involved in the 2019 Cambridge Group Fitness Challenge – you can sign-up to participate or you can sponsor a trainer! Let us explain a bit more about each…
We are looking for Members from all our Clubs to create a team that will take on the trainer teams from the Adelaide Club, Toronto Athletic Club, and Cambridge Club. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Members and to push the trainers that normally push you to their limits. We ask that participants commit to raising a minimum $250 to participate in the Fitness Challenge. There will be several unique fundraising prizes you can win during your fundraising journey. Want to show your support, but not able to commit to participating in the Challenge yourself? We get that! We are also looking for donations to help our trainers reach their individual and team fundraising goals. You can sponsor a specific trainer or our teams online here!

This year, the Adelaide Club team hopes to raise $30,000, the Toronto Athletic Club team is working to raise $35,000, and the Cambridge Club team’s goal is $20,000!
Why are our team captains getting involved?
Brandon: “I’ve grown up with organized sports since the age of 5. From those experiences, I learned the value of team work, goal setting, and being active. Because of the time I spent playing organized sports, I know how important that is physically, mentally, and socially for youth. Having consistent programming and staffing is so important to developing those skills, that I feel that these charities could not be more important to building stronger young leaders in our community.”
Meg: “Physical activity has always been such a powerful, positive force for me. It centres me, increases my self-esteem, and is integral to my continued happiness and success. When I was little, my mom mentored youth at risk in community centres, and offered educational and social support in our prisons. I grew up knowing the importance and power of early and ongoing compassion, intervention, and support. Her death coincided with the introduction of the MLSE 3TO6 initiative to our Clubs. I just knew how thrilled she would be if I could – in some small way – support it. I have also had the incredible opportunity to visit the MLSE LaunchPad and be privy to how funds are being spent, and how impactful their initiatives are. I can assure you every dollar you are able to donate is going directly to help the kids in this community in such a powerful way.”
Erol: “I’ve been working with charities for over two decades, either as a participant or as a community organizer. There is no better way to give back to the community than to donate your time and expertise to such worthy causes. I’ve worked closely with the Canadian Cancer Society and Sick Kids Hospital in the past, just to name a few, and now it’s my pleasure to work with these other great charities. We often take physical literacy for granted and, being a captain, I can make a direct impact and support kids with their physical, cognitive, and social skills.”
What impact will our fundraising have?
Proceeds from the 2019 Fitness Challenge will support: Urban Squash Toronto, 3TO6 Team, MLSE Foundation, and MLSE LaunchPad – all charities that support youth in Toronto and the surrounding area.
Urban Squash Toronto is a charitable organization that combines an intensive after-school, 7 days-a-week, yearlong education program with concentrated athletics (principally squash). They support underserved youth in the Jane-Finch corridor to reach their full academic, athletic, and personal potential.
The 3TO6 Team is a group of local ambassadors supporting MLSE Foundation in raising funds for youth recreational programs in Regent Park, including: Hockey in the Park, Regent Park Football Program, and Community Learning Series.
MLSE Foundation supports the refurbishment of local athletic facilities and funds charities that support kids through sports and recreational programs. Since launching in 2010, MLSE Foundation has invested more than $30 million into our community. Last season, they impacted the lives of more than 125,000 kids.
MLSE LaunchPad is a place where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and reach their potential. They partner with expert organizations who have a longstanding history of delivering programming that support their 4 pillars: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Ready for School, and Ready for Work.
